florence folk music club

The SRISA Folk Club was founded in 2001 by our good friend and Florentine musician, Gianni Martinelli. The idea was to bring together people with a passion for music and create a venue for students to participate with professional and semi-professional musicians.

“Folk Night” is held about twice a semester and every Folk Night is different. Recent performances have included guitar, banjo, bluegrass, blues, rock, classical chamber music, Italian gospel singers, piano rag, Irish folk songs, and numerous other offerings. A popular part of the evening is the “open mike” where students perform along with other musicians from the school and the Florentine community.

Folk Night has become a popular event with our students and our Florentine friends. We consider music, particularly live music, good for the soul, and good for spirit of cooperation and openness that we strive for at the school. We have discovered that many of our students bring considerable musical gifts with them, and are eager to share them with others.
